The Left Bank Shirt

BUTTERICK 6995 by Katherine Tilton made with MIMI, a 100% Japanese cotton gingham seersucker and buttons from the Paris Flea Market.

Changes made to B6995

  • Cut one ‘cuff’ on the bias out of the contrast.
  • Simplified the collar so it ends at the center front on the right front as well as the left front.
  • Cut a generous 1” facing that was lightly interfaced and stitched in place on both sides of the front.
  • All of the shirt is stitched together, including the collar before the placket is added.
  • Lightly interfaced the placket, stitch the long side, turn and press, then slip-stitched the top and bottom edges closed.
  • Stitch buttonholes in the placket before attaching to the right front.
  • Stitch placket to right front. Center of placket lines up with the center of the shirt, which is where the two fronts butt together.
