Dark navy/indigo cotton Japanese selvedge denim, has a narrow, tightly woven band on both edges of the denim fabric which, prevents it from unravelling and, shows a clean finished look. On RTW 'selvedge' jeans, the selvedge edge is often used exposed at the side seams. Selvedge denim comes on a 32" width rather than the standard 62" width. Japanese denim is considered the best, and it is more expensive, because it is woven on old shuttle looms and made using premium fabrics and natural indigo dyes. Selvedge denim is becoming more rare due to the vintage equipment required to make it consistently. It is crisp with a firm hand - and will soften over time and with wear. Right for classic jeans and structured jackets and vests.
