Carol's Flannel Shirt

Chic and cozy cotton flannel

It is already flannel weather here in Oregon and the ArtBarn team are loving the soft coziness of cotton flannel. Carol used a simplified version of Vogue 1750 in our Beatrice Grain Cotton Flannel. She used a simple faced slit at the neckline, and cleverly cut the sleeves on the bias to add stretch and movement.

katherine on Fooling around with flannel

Here’s another version of B6521 — my current BFF shirt pattern — in flannel. I alliterate the feel of flannel with the flattering fit of this shirt. There is nothing like a flannel shirt when the seasons turn into cooler weather. My mind shifts into the zen mode of ‘chop wood, carry water’. For me it’s lug logs in for the wood stove, wash the dishes, make a flannel shirt. Personal zen.

Carol's Cotton Flannel Dress

Artbarn team member and garden designer Carol has a wonderfully rustic chic style. She used our Grand Teton Check Cotton Flannel in Sandra Betzina's versatile shirtdress design, Vogue 1541 with an added tuck and bias cut sleeves.

MARCY SEWN: V1817 IN COTTON FLANNEL

FABRIC

PATTERN

The garment I wore the most last winter was a version of this vest in cotton flannel, so I decided to repeat that success in another color way. I took one yard each of 4 fabrics: Smokey Mountain Plaid, Cecil Herringbone, Gray Time Out, and Sherlock Houndstooth. Arranged the fabrics on the design table and dress form - and in some cases cut 2 versions of the same pattern piece to see the results. I pin scrap of the selected fabric on the pattern pieces and waited until the body of the garment is complete to cut out the collar.

The one red button reflects a Japanese phrase Koh-itten, describing the aesthetic of one dot of red against a neutral background.

Can't wait for cool weather to set in so I can wear it!
