Beautiful muted dusty blue cotton is first batiked with black rectangular dots and then over-dyed - all in small batches. The base is a very fine old-school cotton broadcloth that just gets better with age. A lightly crisp yet soft hand with an appealing malleable drape. Easy to sew and perfect for a shirt, dress, vest, skirt or light-weight pant. Katherine stitched up a shirt for herself from this fabric and doesn't want to take it off! Also great for quilting.
I love working with my supplier, a woman, who is carrying on her family tradition in the fabric business. She lives in the US, goes back and forth to the factory in India, and is always coming up with new concepts, colors and designs for traditional Indian fabrics. The fabrics are made to order in India, and are shipped directly to us from there. These fabrics have a beauty and integrity that reflect the presence of the hands that made them. She keeps inviting me to come to India with her. Maybe one of these days!
Pre-shrink by tossing in the washer/dryer. After sewing, hand launder or machine wash gentle and air dry. Wash separately.
