From India where handmade textile traditions continue. Beautiful hand-pieced patchwork is over-dyed in blue with circles of resist. Two layers of shirting weight cotton: the patchwork includes some embroideries, ikats and eyelets and the reverse has resist dyed circles. The two layers are stitched together by hand in a running stitch. The selvedge edge and ends are hand stitched/finished as well, so you could use as a design element . The fabric is made by hand in 10-12 yard pieces - let us know if you want one entire piece for a project. Has a crisp hand, is softy textured to the touch, with a structured drape. Really beautiful (Marcy says it's really cool!). Denim friendly and right for a jacket, coat, vest or home decor.
I love working with my supplier, a woman, who is carrying on her family tradition in the fabric business. She lives in the US, goes back and forth to the factory, and is always coming up with new concepts, colors and designs for traditional Indian fabrics. The fabrics are made to order in India, and are shipped directly to us from there. These fabrics have a beauty and integrity that reflect the presence of the hands that made them.
