Dark navy Japanese selvedge denim has narrow bands of blue and white on both edges of this classic denim fabric which, prevents it from unravelling and, shows a clean finished look. Reverses to marled cream/navy on the reverse. On RTW 'selvedge' jeans, the selvedge edge is often used exposed at the side seams. Selvedge denim comes on a 32" width rather than the standard 62" width. Japanese denim is considered the best, and it is more expensive, because it is woven on old shuttle looms and made using premium fabrics and natural indigo dyes. Selvedge denim is becoming more rare due to the vintage equipment required to make it consistently. Mid/heavy weight, crisp with a firm hand - and will soften over time and with wear. I tossed a sample into the washer/dryer and it lost some of its crispness. Right for classic jeans and structured jackets and vests.

Pre-treat by wash, dry. Test a swatch first to see the result with your washer/dryer.
