Warm white/ivory fashion/garment weight ultrasuede* has tiny allover mechanically stamped perforations. Produced in Japan, deadstock from an LA designer - new fabric from vintage stock. Soft and supple, with a velvety hand and light drape - the perforations give the fabric a fluid drape. Slight crosswise stretch. Right for a tunic, light jacket or duster coat, vest, skirt, shirt, pants. To line or not.

Cutting & Sewing Tips:
Cut for a nap.
Cut single thickness
Use a rotary cutter.
Test for stitch length, use a longer stitch
Test for needle size - try a #70/10 microtex needle. Do not use a leather needle.
A walking foot is very helpful.
Pin within the seam allowance or use clips.
No seam allowance needed - OK to use raw edges.
Test for iron temperature.
Use a press cloth.
Use a clapper to flatten/smooth seams and topstitching.

*Ultrasuede is the trade name for a synthetic ultra-microfiber fabric which mimics suede leather. It is a non-woven synthetic fabric that mimics the look and feel of natural suede. Invented by a Japanese company, it is made from ultra fine polyester and polyurethane fibers creating a soft, durable fabric that is washable and resistant to shrinking and fading. Ultrasuede comes in different weights, lighter weight for garments, sturdy weights for upholstery. While the American designer Halston did not invent Ultrasuede, he was instrumental in popularizing it in the 1970s after seeing it in a design by Issey Miyake.
