Beautiful contemporary abstract in shades of brown from mocha to nearly black with bits of turquoise on white. Deadstock from a Southern California designer in a microfiber ITY knit. Lightweight, opaque, with crosswise stretch, a smooth silky hand, liquid drape, a 30" repeat and a bit of rolling at the cut edge. The weight is right for tops or bottoms -- a tunic, t-shirt, loungewear, skirt, soft pants or a dress. Perfect for the classic Diane Von Furstenburg wrap dress.

What is an ITY knit?
ITY means INTERLOCK TWIST YARN and refers to a new process of putting an innovative twist into the yarn that is used for knit fabrics. This is one of the new microfiber (polyester) fabrics and is a darling of the fashion world, so it is showing up in fabric stores. It is all over the place in ready to wear at all price points. In the fabric markets I am seeing it in polyester/microfiber and lycra/spandex jersey prints which have a beautiful drape, lovely soft feel and good stretch and recovery. Another big plus is that it does not pill and the texturing process gives it some breathe-ability. ITY jerseys are easy to cut and sew as they don’t curl and hold a press well. I love them for t-shirts, but they are great for little skirts and knit dresses (think that classic Diane Von Furstenburg wrap dress). The drape and stretch are REALLY good...so I add a bit of extra ease at the side seams and double check the fit before sewing the side seams to be sure the ease is right -- you don’t want this fabric too tight. IYT knits come in incredible prints and colors.

Pre-treat by tossing in the washer and dryer, then wash on gentle and air dry. After sewing, hand launder or machine wash gentle and air dry.
