Double-sided navy/gray fleece knit fashion scuba knit, impeccable quality deadstock, produced in Italy for LA designer/artist Sterling Ruby* for S.R. Studio. Midweight: a layer of cotton jersey and a layer of gray soft, velvet-y fleece are firmly bonded mechanically into one soft, slightly spongy layer. Fashion scuba knit is a smooth, structured knit fabric used in modern apparel, and in spite of the name it is not the same as wetsuit neoprene. Smooth on the face, and soft and cozy with slight loft on the reverse, 2 way stretch with a structured sculptural drape. One of the new scuba knits with both structure and softness. Easy to sew, no raveling, so no seam finish needed. Right for structured garments, jacket, coat, vest, hoodie, outdoor pant, workwear, menswear. Marcy says, 'I love finding deadstock with this quality and interesting backstory. While this clothing line is no longer in production, it is a stroke of luck to find some of their deadstock fabrics.'

*At his Los Angeles studio, Sterling Ruby bleaches large rolls of canvas and denim to use for his fabric collages and sculptures. Taking inspiration from the quilters of Gee's Bend in Alabama, as well as Boro textiles from Japan, he makes quilts from scraps of the bleached denim and other materials left over from the production of other artworks. Fabric care: this fabric was dyed with indigo; it crocks/rubs off color. Pre-treat by machine wash on a regular cycle with hot water, then air dry. Repeat as needed. We did this with no visible change or shrinkage to the fabric. This is normal when real indigo is used - this happens with upper end denim too.
