Siena Italian Linen Knit

Linen jersey knit in an elegant muted multicolored floral digital print, deadstock from an Italian mill. Beautiful quality, lightweight, with a characteristic elegant linen texture, semi-opaque, with a soft hand and fluid drape, some crosswise stretch, some recovery, (has a touch of lycra), and a touch of rolling at the cut edge. Right for a t-shirt, tunic, cardi, vest, shrug, kimono or twin set. Marcy says, 'In Japan I bought a jacket-kimono in linen knit, love it!' One-way design, 18" repeat.

• Sounds crazy, but I pretty much ignore the grain on linen knits and simply smooth the fabric, cut, and it works.
• Use a walking foot.
• Linen knits can stretch when sewn on the crossgrain.  To keep seams from stretching, I cut 1” strips of Totally Stable, a soft fusible stabilizer intended for machine embroidery. Fusing is not necessary, just place the stabilizer on top, and you can sew on either side of the stabilizer, but using it is easy and results in clean smooth seams and hems. Stitch using the stabilizer on top, then tear away.
